Objectives

After finishing this activity, you should be able to do dilution calculations for preparations of both liquids and solids ie you should be able to do the following for both solid and liquid preparations:

1. calculate the concentration of the solid or liquid after dilution or concentration of a preparation of known concentration


2. calculate how much of a preparation of known concentration is needed to make a new preparation of specified concentration.

Prerequisites

You need to know the following: the basic units of mass and volume; you need to know about concentrations expressed as percent weight in weight, percent weight in volume, percent volume in volume and as molarities. You will probably need a calculator.
