Objectives

After finishing this activity you should be able to:

1. state what alligation is
2. draw a diagram which will help you with alligation calculations
3. state what the concentration of a diluent is
4. use alligation to calculate the concentration of a solution, mixture etc
5. use alligation to calculate the amount of solution, mixture etc needed to make up a solution, mixture etc of specified concentration
6. be able to do alligation calculations when there is one source of the component and when there are two or more sources of the component

Prerequisites

You need to know the following:
The basic units of mass and volume, you need to know about concentrations expressed as percent weight in weight, percent weight in volume, percent volume in volume and as parts components. You will probably need a calculator.
