Experimental Set-Up

Differences Between Tissues

Different tissues respond differently to drugs and their behaviour may affect how an experiment is performed. For example:
When ileum is exposed to an agonist, the muscle contracts and stays contracted until the agonist is washed out.

Ileum

However, other tissues exposed to agonists contract and then relax, even when the agonist is still present.

Other Tissue

This difference in contraction may affect the experimental procedure: experiments using ileum must make use of wash outs between additions of drugs but frequent wash outs may not be necessary for other tissues.
