This error is displayed
for one of two reasons:
1. You have used angled brackets ‘<>’ in an entry. In this case removing the angled bracket/s from the entry will solve the problem.
2. The local computer is not able to properly connect with
one of the cpd web-servers. Please note that the problem
is not caused by the cpd web-servers, but is a problem with
the local computer, or the ISP. In other words, although
the cpd web-servers are working correctly and waiting for
connections, there is a technical fault with the local connection.
To date, the problem has been mostly limited to a
small number of UK Hospitals and PCTs. The problem commenced
on
November 11th 2009 following a configuration of the NHS N3
Servers. Although
the cause of the N3 problem is unknown, the following workarounds
have been tried at various hospitals and PCTs and have been
proven to fix the problem in most cases.
Workaround for Internet Explorer
Configure
the web browser advanced HTTP 1.1 settings. These are dependant
on IE browser version, so if you are using Internet Explorer,
you will need to determine the version you are currently
using. Follow the instructions below:
- Locate the browser menu bar. Then navigate to 'About Internet Explorer' from
the HELP dropdown menu. Make a note of the IE version displayed.
Return to the menu bar. Navigate to TOOLS >> internet options >> advanced
tab >> HTTP 1.1 settings (about third of the way down that list).
You should be presented with the dialog box below:
![](error_com_with_server.jpg)
If you are using IE 6, both boxes need to be unchecked for
the site to work properly.
If you are using IE 7, the box marked 'Use HTTP 1 through proxy connections'
need to be unchecked.
If you are using IE 8, both boxes need to be checked.
Click on OK and close the Internet options dialogue box.
Close down your browser, then restart and connect to cpd online
again. Your should find that you no longer experience 'Error
communicating with Server'. However, if you continue to experience
problems, please note that this is an N3 issue and
you should contact your local IT for assistance. |
