Before you can enter this building you need to
log on by visiting the
College Administration building
The Administration Building is where you register when you join the College of Pharmacy (CoP) and where you can log in on subsequent visits.
The College is open to all pharmacy students, faculty members of pharmacy schools and to pharmacy graduates.
Its purpose is to provide a resource for pharmacy students and pharmacists and to act as a forum for discussion and ideas.
The College does not issue degrees or qualifications of any sort. Membership is free with the exception of access to some computer aided learning (CAL) packages.
If you are a member of a University Department or Academic Institution which has paid for access to CAL packages, you MUST register using your institutional email address
in order to gain access to the packages. It is our intention that you'll retain lifelong access to the packages.
If you are NOT a member of an institution that has already subscribed you are very welcome to register with the College of Pharmacy as an individual
A central objective of The College of Pharmacy (CoP) is to encourage interchange of information between staff and students at different Schools and Colleges of Pharmacy..
As the breadth and depth of pharmaceutical science and practice grows, it is increasingly the case that schools have varying expertise in different areas of pharmacy.
In addition, expertise only available in the practice environment (community, hospital or industry) can be of benefit and interest to pharmacy students.
An easy and effective way of sharing the pool of pharmaceutical information and expertise and making it available to students generally is to make lectures available openly.
If you are an academic pharmacist or a practising pharmacist that writes and delivers lectures using Powerpoint presentations or other electronic means, please consider making these openly available. The College of Pharmacy undertakes to make all lectures displayed on the website freely available without charge.
The Herb Garden is designed to promote the understanding of herbs and medicinal plants and their place in traditional and modern pharmacy. There are four parts to the Herb Garden:
- Information about Gardens in different countries are designed to encourage students to visit the gardens and see the plants at first hand.
- Photographs of Herbs and Medicinal Plants, taken by members of CoP or obtained free of copyright, are displayed in a simple gallery format.
- A virtual collection of reference books has already been established
- A more ambitious presentation of Herbs and Medicinal Plants has already been started where information about the plants is stored in a database. Key elements include Common and Latin Names, Constituents and Uses in Medicine and Folklore
It is hoped that the Herb Garden may contribute towards collaboration between Schools of Pharmacy in different countries, particularly those in countries which have an untapped wealth of less well known plants.
The Library aims to encourage browsing by displaying Journals and Books as one might see them in a traditional library.
It was a common experience, while scanning the shelves or looking at individual journals,
to come across interesting relevant material that you were unaware of and would not see when using a well-directed search engine.
Where publishers allow, tables of contents, sample chapters and articles, and in some cases full text are made available.
In other cases links or directions to publishers are provided.
Users are encouraged to propose additional Books and Journals. Publishers will also be encouraged to make new titles and editions available.
The CoP Library will also act as a portal for purely electronic sources of pharmaceutical material which will also be displayed in a format designed to encourage discovery.
Also, submitted posters from national and international pharmacy conferences will be displayed.
These might otherwise become ‘lost’. There is no charge for displaying your poster and access to viewing posters is free to registered users.
The virtual Museum was established to provide a place where students of pharmacy can browse through a collection of artefacts representing
the origins and development of their profession.
Categories of the collection currently include:
- Prescription books from the 19th and early 20th century
- Equipment used to compound and dispense medicines
- Pharmaceutical containers
- Old student notebooks
- Photos of pharmacies
- Old pharmacopoeias, reference books and text books
- Information about pharmacy museums throughout the world, with details of opening hours and links to their websites
It is emphasised that the Museum is not intended to be just a collection of old objects. The objects are chosen and displayed in a manner to encourage an understanding of their place in pharmaceutical history and, most importantly, how they relate to modern pharmacy practice.
The Computer Aided Learning (CAL) packages are all written in conjunction with established experts in the field either from schools of pharmacy, pharmacy practice or the
pharmaceutical industry. The CAL packages were originally designed to be viewed on PC computers but many can be viewed on Apple Mac computers and the more popular ones are being
redeveloped for tablets devices and mobile phones.
Use of the CAL packages on CoP requires a licence and these are available for Schools of Pharmacy and other organisations which allow all their staff and students unlimited use of
one or more packages. Individual student licences are also available. The licence fees include a royalty to the individual authors.
Use the button below to enter the CAL Learning Centre for more information about available CAL packages
The Students’ Union is intended to be a place that individual students can customise to reflect the way they want it to work.
Ideas for available resources include:
- A list of RSS feeds relating to Pharmacy.
- Quizzes on Pharmaceutical topics.
- Notification of new books and journals (as they are added to the library).
- Geo-locational information about who else is logged on to CoP.
- A CoP group on LinkedIn and social media sites.
The display is customisable by the individual user to reflect their interest. So, if the individual is only interested in pharmacy practice or in pharmaceutics
then only RSS feeds relating to the corresponding subject matter will be displayed.
We develop and host the GPhC’s system for recording and review of CPD records for UK pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
We also provide a ‘student version’ of CPD online to UK Schools of Pharmacy. The appearance and functionality of the student version is as close as possible to the GPhC version
although it does not include a mechanism for submitting records or for professional review. However the ‘viewer’ mechanism can be used for tutors to view student records.
Students will use their university email address as their username. Their password will be sent as a spreadsheet to their university CPD tutor or other designated individual
at their school for distribution to their students.
Students who are members of the BPSA can also access the student version as BPSA members which will allow them to integrate CPD recording online with the BPSA Professional
Development Certificate (PDC) scheme.
The College of Pharmacy Forum is still under construction...
