Objectives

After finishing this activity, you should be able to:

1. state what it means when a concentration is expressed as parts components
2. state the various ways in which concentration in parts components can be phrased eg as a dilution
3. state what parts components can be used to express the concentration of eg gas in a liquid
4. do calculations involving concentrations expressed as parts components.

Prerequisites

You need to know the following:
the basic units of mass and volume, the relationship between number of moles, RMM and mass and how to do the associated calculations, what significant figures are. You will probably need a calculator.
