Now consider the following shape. This is still a trapezoid but for this type of trapezoid, one of the non-parallel sides forms the perpendicular height. The area is therefore still found from the equation shown. This is the type of trapezoid that you will encounter when finding the area under a curve.
So, for the example trapezoid below the area is ( (8 + 6) / 2 ) x 3 cm
2 = 21 cm
