Hypertension: Stages
The option "Hypertension: Stages" shows information which will help you to work out:
- Whether a person has hypertension
- What stage of hypertension a patient has
This option shows a table indicating the blood pressure measurements needed in order to diagnose each of the stages of hypertension.

Treatment: Stepped Program
The option "Treatment: Stepped Program" shows information about the class(es) of antihypertensive drug recommended at each of the four steps of the stepped pharmacological treatment program. Information is taken from
NICE Guideline NG136.
There are two main "routes" through the stepped program and information about the two routes is included.
Route 1 covers the treatment of the following:
- ALL patients of any age or any origin who have type 2 diabetes
- Patients under 55, who are not of Black African or African-Caribbean family origin
Route 2 covers the treatment of the following:
- Patients aged 55 and over, who do NOT have type 2 diabetes
- Patients of any age who are of Black African or African-Caribbean family origin, and who do NOT have type 2 diabetes
